InfoSAT creates a loop between you and the Net. Information leaves your PC in the traditional manner - via a phone line to your ISP, but, when it returns, the data comes in via satellite, gets picked up by your Satellite dish, and finds it's way back to your computer.

This high performance Internet access is achieved by taking advantage of the disparity in Internet information flow. Ttraffic from the Internet to the client computer is far higher than the outgoing requests for pages and data.

You only notice one, major, difference:
SPEED

INTERFACE: Requirements

DATA: Frequently Asked Questions

InfoSat provides a high speed data connection at a cost far more affordable than any other, comparable, service.

Minimum bandwidth is guaranteed, without limiting maximum bandwidth – this means that, although a connection may be rated as 64kbits, the actual throughput will often be far higher.

INFOSAT: BASICS

InfoSat provides a means whereby an ordinary television satellite dish can be used to bring data to your desktop. Working alongside your standard Internet Service Provider and phone line to send data, users can bypass international bandwidth bottlenecks and poor phone line quality to receive information at lightning speeds.

Real Image and InfoSat offer three types of service:

  • SOLO, designed for home users
  • CONNECT for the small to medium size network
  • STATION, for the corporate LAN users.

All options require some special hardware, a satellite dish and a monthly subscription

A television decoder is NOT required.

HOME

The InfoSat SOLO uses a PCI expansion card for your PC,  connected, via cable, directly to a Satellite dish. The cable from the dish can be split so that the card and television decoder work concurrently. Many decoders have a signal-out connector that would allow the card to be connected to the decoder instead.

Drivers available for Windows 95/98 and NT

SMALL  NETWORK
CONNECT uses a modem and Dial on Demand to connect to the ISP (Internet Service Provider) for outgoing information and a Standard   Satellite dish and a Windows NT Satellite Router for incoming Internet traffic.

CORPORATE

InfoSat STATION is a custom router that is connected to the satellite receiver, and then to a LAN.  When installing a STATION, it is important to note that a leased line connection to the ISP (Internet Service Provider)  will still be required in order to carry outgoing information.

The STATION is a Linux OR Windows NT based system and will connect seamlessly to most networks.

GENERAL

A monthly subscription is the only other InfoSat cost. Telkom and your ISP will still charge their usual rates, but ONLINE TIME AND INCOMING TRAFFIC ARE NOT CHARGED ADDITIONALLY.
